While home on vacation at my folks' a few years ago, I acquired the taste for "breakfast" in the morning: the routine coffee and toast with side of reading material. As I was up early enough, I was able to partake in said routine (minus newspaper).
But, of course, this wasn't just any day. It was Mother's Day, Sunday and almost a day without electricity. Thanks to their recent purchases of generator and gas water heater, we certainly didn't suffer. I was able to have a nice, warm shower and Mom was even able to curl her hair.
Gram took the photo on the right. Notice the corsages on Mom and Gram that I ordered. I thought is was a nice alternative to vase flowers on Mother's Day.
It was a beautiful day outside as well. While Mom, Gram and I went to Arnold View FWB church, dad stayed home to deal with Gram's flooded basement and keeping the generator going. Before we left for church, Mom got the beef roast ready in the oven so Dad was in charge of that, too. And it was de-lish with gravy, carrots, potatoes and iceberg salad.
After our beyond yummy meal, Gram and I sat on the deck in the the sun until it started getting cool. About that time, Dad decided to take us all for a ride in his dual cab truck to check out storm damage around the area. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures but I do have at least the photos from uprooted trees and blown-off barn roofing in our little Stahlhutsville.
Barn. Peeled like a can of sardines.
Neighbor's uprooted redbud tree.
Tin barn roofing blown next to the fence. And my dad walking around the flooded yard.
A common sight after the storm: grass clipping stuck to the side of our house. Gram's cherry tree branch split.
Mom's flagpole down though is already repaired.

Don't worry. My paintings are only on loan and not for sale. They'll be retrieved first of July. Tomorrow, still jetlagging but on my feet...
How thoughtful of you to order corsages for Mother's Day!! I'm sure this year had special meaning giving what you've been through this year. The storm looks like a doozy-- I'm so glad everyone was safe and sound and that they were fortunate enough to have purchased a generator and gas heater!!
ReplyDeleteGlad also to hear the paintings are on loan-- you know I've had my eye on a couple of those for many, many years now! ;)
