Double up - Tuesday and Wednesday

Roses from Karen Jones' garden. These graced our table for a few days after Mother's Day.

Well, I tried to condense the week but there's just too many little things I don't feel like skipping over. Stick with me. I may have to double up a bit. Cheers.

Tuesday, May 12
In the morning, power still has not returned. We were all up before seven. After breakfast of Gram’s homemade bread with cream cheese and strawberries on the side, Mom and I were out for a walk on the frontage road again just around seven. Walked for almost a mile.

When we came back, I tried setting up internet reception on my laptop. I discovered my operating system is too old, so no can do. Mostly I wanted to Skype with Nico and publish my blog from comfort of the patio. Nico was excited about getting to use his webcam to stay in closer touch with me. Oh well. Maybe in September when I’m at the beach, we can try again. Steph, do you think it’s possible to Skype the wedding ceremony ;)

Went to Target to get some essentials: socks and undies. Also got some shorts (that were too small) and jog pants (that were too petite). Nico likes the t-shirts from Target, too, so I found a fun one that says, “I am a fun guy” beside an illustration of a smiling mushroom.

In the store, mom and I ran into the mother of a former softball teammate of mine, Suzie Hearn. I was glad to be in a Target scootmobile ‘cause we had a lot of catching up to do.

After Target, we went to Arbie’s for lunch. I couldn’t help but order a roast beef and cheddar with curly fries. There, we ran into Vickie Dameron who had sharing to do, as well.

After trying on mostly non-fitting clothes, I went to Gram’s and had a nice visit under the tulip tree (ended up with a healthy burn on the top of my legs).

Grilled hamburgers for dinner. With sliced onions, lettuce, cheese, mustard and mayo. Mom also had made (before power outage) spicy cinnamon cooked apples. Tasty.

Wednesday, May 13
Power’s on and the world is back to normal. Trucks and cars are buzzing past taking passengers back to their old reality after the calm following the storm.

In the morning, Mom and I did exercises together. She sat with me during squats and crossovers then I finished with leg lifts, chest presses and abs.

Took a snack break. I had mentioned that I wanted healthy snacks like carrot sticks and so I got baby carrots, wheat crackers and cranberry juice.

Lunch was not far off. Before I could re-warm the Sunday roast and fixins, I watched Dad display his skills in attaching a new mower attachment to an old tractor from the 50s.

Looked up info on computer about an Iris Farm and Amish communities in the region we might want to visit. Brenda Wall dropped in to visit for a little while, too. I never have people just dropping by in Holland (Nico doesn’t count).

Walked with Mom in the afternoon just before three o'clock. Way too windy – almost blew me over a few times. Mom dropped me off at Gram’s afterward and we visited until Mom picked us up for dinner. Had fun with Gram looking through old documents about Fries family history. Pages missing make me curiouser and curiouser.

Dinner of tasty pork and sour kraut was at 5:30 with side of mashed potatoes then strawberries and ice cream for dessert. Gram hung out til seven as we did some planning for next week.

We gals sat out on the patio and planned our "cousins tea" for next Tuesday.

Watched a little of the Cardinals vs. Pirates game – Cards lost. Boo.

  1. I've actually had another request to Skype the ceremony. I'm game for it; I just don't know how well it will work given that 1)it's pretty windy 2)you'd have to have a satellite connection since it's outdoors on the sand and all and 3) we can't have amplification such as microphones on the beach. I'll put you in charge of figuring it out. ;)

I think that T-shirt is perfect for Nico!! Didn't know he likes Target T-shirts.....must file that away for future use....

My dad used to have the same tractor when he lived on the farm in Fairburn-- I always liked it 'cause it was red and not the typical John Deere green like most of them. I'm quite fond of the blue ones too (can't think of the manufacturer off-hand). Man, Michael's right-- my neck IS a little pink ;)

All that talk about strawberries makes me want some. Especially with ice cream. YUM!

  2. It sounds like you are having such a great visit - so chill and back to basics and yeah… I want strawberries too!

I love the shirt you got for Nico - fungi… fun guy… I GET IT! LOL!

Target is the bomb baby - I could live there.

So nice that you are getting in the walking time and that people are dropping in to visit… sounds lovely!

BTW - very nice mug in one of the pix - love the handle :)

Can't wait to see you in Sept.! Keep on keepin' on gurl.

    Love,
    S
