Despite the fact that I am a busy bee during the week, I have adopted my dog's philosophy on weekends (I believe I stated these statistics in my last entry). The way I figure it, I deserve a break after having repeated weekends that were nothing but paint, fix, arrange.
Thursday therapy
It started out as a halfway disappointing day but by the end, the day felt good. Because of some free time that unexpectedly arrived in the afternoon, I was able to get in all the fitness machines plus a good 10 minute walk on the treadmill. It had been three weeks since I'd climbed aboard the loopband so I was curious to see the results. I got speed up to 3.5 and was able to walk for a full minute at 3.4, a first. It was such a gas to see such improvement. I'm certain all of the Nordic walking was a big contributor to this amazing result.
As you probably remember, Thursdays are my day to ride the tricycle. But it turned out that Nick was sick and no one else was available (thus, all the time for fitness in the afternoon).
A day with Nico
Friday, Nico took me to the grocery store and I accompanied him to the hair dresser. Yeah! He's presentable again. He hadn't had a trim since his trip last summer to the U.S. where he got a good old American haircut.
We also went by the library to pick up a sticker that works to turn away junk mail. While we were there, I noticed some paintings on exhibit and wondered how one got work on display there. So I asked. And, guess what, she'll take my paintings come May. Funny, huh? Nico was so excited he wants to make prints of his photos and see if he can get them displayed, too.
Picking up where I left off
I tuned up my guitar last night and got out some of my sheet music to refresh my memory. I don't believe I've ever understood that phrase - refresh my memory - more than I did last night. It must be the combination not having played for almost three years and having an aneurysm because there were whole songs for which I couldn't even recall the melody.
But I found enough that I could still manage to both remember and sing to. Good enough for now. I was tuckered out after about an hour and a half. But it was enjoyable. I've moved my guitar into the livingroom along with my books. No more excuses.
Reaching my limit
I must say, though, that adding one more thing on my plate (like playing the guitar) is making me see my limits. I mean, a girl can only put her mind to so many things and then... well, her brain explodes... or in my case, just says "enough". I'm gonna try to do what I always do and follow my inspiration.
One thing I do see is that if I leave something alone long enough, I can loose my ability to do it. I was lucky with painting, typing and whole loads of other things. But making music is different. You gotta keep the pipes blowing strong and true and keep that rhythm hand in shape. It's definitely gonna take some practice to get back into shape musically. I just really have to want it.
End of the day
I'm heading over to Nico's now. Our regular friets night, time to fill up on fried foods and coke. I understand you all sprung forward last night. We take our big leap at the end of March.
One last thing, I think I missed a big birthday shoutout to a little girl in Georgia. Miss Emma, I hope you had a good one, gal. Love, Auntie Rhonda.
You DO deserve a break... Can't believe all you CAN accomplish...It will be neat to see your paintings displayed at the library...Think you should find your limit BEFORE the big expolosion...You will have that guitar whipped into shape in no time...You are amazing...Love & Prayers...Dale & Nancy
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you and Nico will have work on exhibit! Take pix of it on display so we can share in your excitement too :)
ReplyDeleteThe music will come back to you in no time… but hurry up - Steph needs a band for the wedding ;)
Love ya!

I think it's fabulous that you're going to have your work displayed!-- That just may lead to selling some of your stuff, then you'll be this big famous artist, and we'll say we knew you when..... ;)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely keep practising the guitar-- but like Dale and Nancy said-- not too much-- no more explosions, OK? I would love it if you'd be able to play and sing something for me at the wedding if you're able to make it. (But no pressure, of course). I actually have a couple of particular songs in mind. :)))
