Easter weekend

Painting project
Saturday, I got started on the metal chairs restoration project. I began with the garden chair I believe to have inherited after Mama Rosie passed. First sanded, wash with soap followed by a wipe with ammonia, then paint.

I'm going with the same non-color as they were last painted - white. After the painting is done, new old the cushions could use with recovering, as well.

Fries with that
Saturday night we had our usual Sunday dinner (friets) so that we could enjoy a more holiday style meal for Sunday dinner.

After friets, I thought it appropriate to open my first package from that wicked Georgia Easter bunny. Afterward, I kept hearing this crunching noise then turn to see Nico with another mouthful of Easterly M&Ms. I expect them to be gone by weeks end. Nico got a kick out of teasing the dogs with the miniature wind-up bunny. And it will be my happy mission to keep the fluffy bunny from Casper's teeth.

A walk in the woods
Well, we didn't spot the Paas haas, but we did have a nice walk in the woods Sunday afternoon. Just a little perspective: the last time we were here, Nico was pushing me through the snow in my wheelchair. Today, we walked in perfect springtime weather for nearly two hours. Using my mobile phone, I created 15 minute increments of walking alternating with a few minutes of rest. It worked well to keep my energy up and Nico didn't seem to mind the breaks.

The pathways we walked were both paved and dirt-packed for bicycles. Both were easily doable with the help of my sticks. Nico snapped a few photos and shot a little video to share. The boys came with us on the hike, of course. A wonderful time was had by all.

Terrace picking
After the hike, we came home at had our Easter dinner - baked varkenshaas wrapped in bacon with a side of steamed broccoli and bloemkool. It was topped off with coffee and cheesecake. Albert Heijn makes 'holiday meals' that are deliciously off the beaten path of other weekly semi-prepared meals. It's nice that after our long hike, all I have to do is steam some veggies and turn the oven on.

After desert, I made a call to the fam back home. Just before that, Nico and I opened the second package this time from the Illini Easter bunny. It was as wonderful as the first (except heavier). The phone was passed around as usual and, as usual, it was great talking to everyone. Then I got dressed in my new shoes with my new 'chick' socks and we went to find a terrace in town to sit and people watch.

All in all, another great day.
