Swim practice started yesterday before 9 a.m. and I think I already feel a difference in my leg. When I walk now my leg seems lighter, my knee bends more quickly.
When in the pool, I practice not only swimming (on my back) kicking my leg but when I get to each end of the pool, I am made to stand on both legs lifting first one then the other. I really have to push hard against the water to get my foot down. It was already easier to do today than yesterday. I can even walk the stairs into and out of the pool. Cool!
I still need to get a badmutts (swimming cap) that doesn't let water in. I bought the cheapest one and it lets water in around my ears. Doh! Not good for my new cut.

Fysio
Another reason I may feel a difference today is because I'm wearing lighter shoes. I have started wearing those heavy hiking boots again and I think they are building muscle just by lifting them. Go boots!
I also got put on a treadmill. I was scared to death at first but the substitute therapist helped me by literally lifting my leg and placing my foot. What I feel now is a more steady rhythm for walking (i.e. one foot after another with more regular pace). If this works, it will increase my walking speed as well as improve my gait. Excellent!
After the fall of Rhonda
Well after having fallen on my tailbone on Monday, I'm recovering bit by bit. Most pain is now in my lower back and around my right shoulder blade. I also still have the stiff neck. But my wheelchair pace is quickening and my energy level is getting back up there.
Music goes on
Despite my spill, I am still sitting at the keys. No silly bench can keep me away. I also picked up my guitar today and wore myself out on that. Pace thyself.

Scooting around
I got a chance to ride a scoot mobile yesterday inside and today outside the building. I've been resistant to having one but it will be the only way I can have some independence (i.e. going shopping for groceries, for instance). It takes up to three months to get one as the paperwork makes it's way through the system. Until then, I'll have to find other ways like public transport and the Nico bus.
I also rode an alternative cycle, one for people in my condition. Even to ride this bike, I need to have more control and power in my right leg.
Photos
I thought I'd just put some nice photos in this issue since I don't have videos of me swimming, walking or scooting around. The one of me and my boy Hazel and the boys were taken by Nico. The other one with Nico and me in the front is at Longhorns where we went to dinner for Ellen's birthday. Hope you enjoy.
I finally caught up on with your blog postings. I had a chance to meet Katie in Hawaii so of course I went. It put me more behind but I didn't care. We had a great time. I'm so glad to hear about your continued progress. I know, given your drive, that it must be frustrating at times (maybe most of the time) but your progress has been so good that I hope you can keep your spirits up. I wish I could come help you move but I know you will have lots of help and Dick would be none too happy if I left him again so soon after Hawaii. He is so dependent!
