We had another successful weekend organizing/packing. True to form, Nico wanted to do only the "big" things like take down shelves and paintings off the wall, take apart the bed, pack big things into big boxes. Wrapping egg holders and juice glasses in newspaper wasn't really his thing. So, we've still got the kitchen to pack up. This will probably be the job for one of my friends who comes to help next weekend.
And I'll probably tackle the attic next. I was up and down the stairs a few times this weekend. I still have to walk backwards down the stairs but I did the ups and downs each time without a hitch and without help. Woo-hoo! But the attic is a different story as there is no bannister 1/3 of the way. I haven't taken stairs without holding onto a rail so I'll need help or at least observation.
Dust... aa-choo
Having been in the hospital and away from home since late August means the dust piled up (more than usual). I've kept the windows open as we packed, pushed and shoved our way through it to keep the headaches and sneezes away.
Walking in the hood
We had a nice walk through the park near my house on Sunday. I was in my chair as usual. Last weekend, Nico did all the walking without me but I insisted that I be taken out at least once on Sunday. A good time was had by all.
Monday - trying a few new things
For ergo therapy, we took a trip to the grocery store in the scootmobile. Easy enough but cold! I used to look at young girls on mopeds using winter coats in spring thinking, "why don't they just bike? It would keep them warmer and keep their butt in shape." The only difference between them and me is that they have a choice.
In fysio, we tried on the infamous orthesis. And it worked well except for being a bit too tight in my shoes. "It worked" means that it kept my foot at a 90 degree angle and enabled me to swing my foot more easily. If I practice a lot, my walking will get quicker which is the ultimate goal. We'll see how it goes throughout the week.
sounds good - but make sure you don't over do it supergirl ;)
