The people smiling above are me with my three lunchmates (from left), Crystal, Martin and Mrs. Dorchmans. Crystal spent some time in small town America back when she was in high school - and she liked it! What a blessed creature I am to have someone sitting beside me that appreciates potlucks and nachos. Martin used to fly around the world selling cars and he's spent time in the Heartland, as well - Lexington, KY. He speaks five languages (not to me, of course) including Japanese. Mvrw. Dorchmans and I can't say much to each other but she's warmed up to me. Sometimes, a smile is enough.
More walking ahead
Titia told me yesterday that I should be using my wheelchair only as a place to get from one place to another. In other words, park it and walk.
Well, this will take some getting use to, building up energy again. After therapy, I took her advice when I got back to my room, set it up so that I had a way to sit at the sink and at the "desk". Then, I parked my chair and walked around. But I was worn out pretty quickly. This will take a while, indeed.
Getting going in the morning
I also asked Titia for some excercises I could do first thing in the morning to wake my leg up. It still is kind of tense first thing in the morning making it hard to stand. And I won't even consider walking because of it. We'll see if some morning excercises work to loosen things up.
I can get down. It's the getting up that takes some doing.
Doing excercises while sitting or lying on a floor mat was something I also asked about. She said there's no reason why not. In fact it might help make me more confident in my walking since I would know how to get up off the floor if I ever fell down.
That fear of falling is a huge thing. It keeps a lot of older folks less active than they really could be. I wish you courage to face your fear so you can get better!!! I'm also very glad you have such a beautiful setting to be in. It sure beats the heck out of rehab centers I've worked in!
ReplyDeleteIt really does look like such a nice place! How was the pumpkin soup? Much love sistah!
