Big steps last weekend

Saturday
Nico's parents and I attended an information fair here at the facility. It was around the topic of transportation. So, we saw scooters, adult-sized tricycles, rollaters and met with transportation groups related to driving cars or riding public transport. One of the best contacts I made was with a disabled person's org called MEE. They take over when rehab facility has done their work.

On the way to Nico's house, his parents stopped for fish at a little fish winkel (store). I had kibbeling (seen here).

After they left, I had the place to myself. Around 5 o'clock, I started making dinner (a macaroni dish). I managed to wash the salad, cook a large pot of macaroni, brown hamburger and veggies, and mix it all together before 6. I laid down and let Nico do the rest when he got home. He said it was almost like having me back. Next step: shopping for ingredients at the grocery store.

Sunday
We took it easy. Nico repotted some plants in the afternoon. For myself, I helped make breakfast and, all day, used the rollater (walker with wheels). I like having the rollater for getting around in the house because it has a platform to help carry things around.

We also made the short video that you can see in my earlier entry.

Monday
I stayed over again on Sunday night so we could go directly to the hospital for my follow-up MRI appointment at 8:30am. Be glad if you never have to have one, especially if you have a fear of enclosed spaces (like I do). The results will come Friday. We'll be looking for any other weak areas of the brain that might be susceptible to a future stroke as well as how my brain has healed from the stroke.

After the scan, we went and viewed an apartment (on the second floor). I have been wanting to live closer to Nico for some time and had signed up with Direct Wonen to send me possible apartments to view. The one we looked at was the first one that was so close to Nico's house - a 2 minute walk (for my grandma). Long story short, I'll be moving in on December 1. By the way, anyone who wants to help me pack, let me know! We'll be working at it through the month of November.

Finally, we had a nice lunch at Olympia, simply a lunch canteen at an athletics center near Blixembosch. When I am able to spend more time with my guy, I remember why I want to be around him. We had a nice long weekend and it ended so nicely.

Thanks again for staying in touch, here and by post. Thanks to you who sent goodies and cards in the last weeks. When I get my new mailing address, I'll post it here!

  3. Rhonda - We are glad to see you getting better and moving forward. We don't normally blog so it's taken us a while to post. Your pumkin is great. I created a couple for Jordan this year....BIG step for my creative talent (or lack of). The painting looks great and reminded my how talented you are. Keep up the hard work which I'm sure will pay off. Gary.

  4. I'm so glad you've got Nico there to help you out with things. It's a good move for both of you to be closer to him. I'm also glad that you're getting closer and closer to resuming your normal life. And I agree with Skiela about the fish-- and I don't even like fish!! :)

  5. MRI's *shudder* been there, did that - HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Sorry you had to do through it.

Is your grandma coming for a visit??? Or are you commenting on your speed? (Hoping for the former ;-)

    Take care!
