From Blixembosch, September 26

A slow start to the morning
It's Friday, a slow morning. Everything about my body seems to wake up slowly.

The advice from the therapist regarding less pillows is hard to follow. I am having pain in my hip when I turn from side to side. I had to be a side sleeper! Arg.

At least I had a better breakfast today. No, the Dutch have not seen the err of their boring brood eating habits. I got a box of instant (sorry Liz) grits from friends below the Mason Dixon (I learned to eat grits during college years). It was such a treat. And you bet I got grins and stares from my breakfast companions.

You can always tell which people haven't gotten out of Kansas much by the emphasis with which they question your eating habits: "You want to eat peanut butter with jam?" "Spa rood again? Ick!" "Pancakes, eggs and bacon for breakfast? That's SO unhealthy!" As my folks would say, they just don't know what's good.

Noonish
The sun is shining again today. I wish there was a tempurature guage somewhere.

It's shaping up to be a good day. Nice to have a slow start to the morning as it will probably give me the energy I need for therapy today.

Monday, all of my trainers, doctors and helpers get together to discuss my case. They do this every three weeks. I suppose I'll get some kind of progress and prognosis report. Will let you know.

Off to rest and ready for the afternoon.

A hard-working afternoon
I had yet another test confirming how well my arm is coming along. Score 61 out of 63. Aside this I had a test for my leg whichs resulted in a score going the opposite direction. It's difficult to acknowledge but I probably won't have the miraculous awakening with my leg that I've had with my arm and hand. The score was about a 13. I have a lot of work ahead of me.

I walked a set of stairs today - with help, of course. It was much easier going up than going down. I've had trouble with my legs since I was born - the results are that my feet turn in and my knees bow inward. This is caused by my hip, according to the therapist. So, what to do? I haven't gotten an answer to this yet. They just want to get me functional, where my leg is concerned - walking and using stairs. Kicking myself will also be in there somewhere as well.

So, I'm now beginning to use my right arm to help propel my wheelchair. It is a great workout for my shoulder which is what needs the most strengthening. Who knew the shoulder muscles were the strength behind most of the powerful actions of the arm? Not me. I've found myself to have been rather ignorant during this entire recovery process. I'm getting an education though.

More movies to come
I promise to try to get more movies over the weekend. Everybody loves a film. :)

P.S. A happy birthday wish to my old friend and landlady, Doris.

  2. Hey Girl-

Disappointing news about your leg, but I'm glad you're able to do some walking with it anyway. Hopefully, the more you push it, the better it will get. It may not be miraculous and quick like your arm, but it doesn't mean it can't happen ever, right? Keep plugging away at it-- you're never far from my thoughts!!!!!!

  3. Hey Rhonda,

I've been keeping track of you thru this blog and I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully your leg will respond as well as your arm and hand. Look at it this way - one thing at a time.

    Love,
    Starla

  4. I can't believe it has taken me so long to get in touch with you. But we have had you in our prayers everyday. Katie sends wishes for a full and fast recovery. She is still in Australia but will be returning to the states in a few weeks. I haven't had a chance to read your blog but will try to read it all in the morning. I always think specific prayer is better than general prayer so I will try to focus on what you need. We all send our love. More later. SWe send lots of love.
