First thing this morning, Mom and I headed to the Carbondale Farmer’s Market We saw some beautiful produce, gorgeous plants and lovely pottery from a lady in Carterville. We even ran into Gayle again. It was small but as nice as I’d expected.
Back in Marion, we went to the cemetery to see the flowers Mom and Gram had placed yesterday while I was resting. Afterwards, we picked up a ready-bake pizza from Papa Murphys. If you haven’t had one yet, you gotta try it. We got the Classic Italian (which wasn’t even on the menu).
I was just plum tuckered out so I rested and napped in the afternoon, which made an improvement to my energy level. I’d just been doing too much without getting enough rest. I was able to get caught up on the blog again.
The pizza was great and we made a wilted lettuce salad on the side. Mom’s wilted lettuce salad is made with leaf lettuce, chopped spring onions, and lots of garlic salt topped with bacon. The grease from the bacon is what’s used to wilt the lettuce. Gram adds vinegar and sugar.
After dinner, Mom and Dad got cleaned up and took me to Tower Square for the Cruise-In. Nico’s dad would have loved the classic oldies and cars. He’s a huge Elvis fan.

Afterwards, we got a mister misty (now called Arctic Freeze, I think) at the DQ. I got raspberry because I always liked the way it turned my tongue blue.
We barged in on the Hastings while they chilled on their new deck. Nancy showed us her newly remodeled (by Dale) kitchen and the rest of the house which I hadn’t seen since the 80s. A lots changed, a lot is the same. (By the way, the fella laughing with his feet up is the Dale in Dale & Nancy.)

Sunday, May 24
Mom drove Gram and me to her church for the 10:30 service. Met their new minister and saw a few old friends.
Our lunchtime fish fry went ahead despite the absence of our invited guests, Dave and Lou. Dave had come down with something and just wasn’t up to the over one hour trip. It was de-lish. Mom also made “Judy’s salad” which she’d wanted to make for me.
The fry daddy at it again. Hushpuppies.
The fried filets, Judy Salad and fried potatoes.
Gram had brought coconut cream and rhubarb custard pies for dessert. We all stuffed ourselves into taking naps. We watched the Cardinals lose to Kansas City while Gram and I played Yatzee. She might be loosing her edge but she still beat me 4 out of 6 games.
It was a restful, rainy day making it a perfect kind of Sunday. Watched Batman film on TV and was in bed before 10.

How funny is it that the second I saw the first picture of you with the Mr. Misty, I immediately pictured you in my mind's eye with your tongue sticking out, only to see it in reality in the next photo? lol.
ReplyDeleteMy grandma used to make the same basic salad, but she didn't use garlic salt-- your version sounds better.
YATZEE!
ReplyDeleteLove ya girl :)
