Mom took this photo with my camera. I think the composition is a gem. What a catch!
This entry chronicles a very special day. Thanks again to Mom's camera for all the yummy photos. I think you'll be able to tell I have my energy back today. Pithy.

About 9 a.m., went and picked up Gram to head toward the Iris Farm near Wayne City, IL. On the way, we stopped at the bank for Gram and Radio Shack for me to order phone charger tip. Then we were on our way up 57N. Mom stopped at Hardee’s in Mt. Vernon so I could grab a snack and make my own deposit before we were too far gone to turn back.

A golden field, a common sight along our Illinois byways.

A memorial display we saw repeated at small town court houses.
Can you spot Gram asittin' on the bench?
And me atalkin' to the Mennonite lady. How I do love people with conviction.
The Iris Farm is owned and operated by a Mennonite family. The young woman I spoke to said they had inherited the rhizomes years ago, dug them all up and moved them to there new home. Though nearing it's end, the last blooms were worth marveling at. It was easy to imagine the extravagant beauty that must have been witnessed during its peak.

The littlest, Mennonite girl in a gown she'll someday grow into. And, of course, just a few of the amazing living things in nature's garden.
Afterwards, we drove up to the edge of Wayne City and ate lunch at the Little Red Barn. I had a sloppy joe, Mom and Gram had salads.

On the way back home, we saw some lovely old barns and I got really sleepy in the warming car. Before zipping past Crab Orchard, we stopped at LaRonda’s flower shop and, afterwards, put flowers on family graves at Davis Prairie in anticipation of Memorial Day.
At 6:30, I went with Jen and Gary to Waltz Pizza. I enjoyed our conversation, deck sitting and the double decker pizza, as usual. Afterwards, we went and picked up Jordan from Granny Yvonne’s.
Waltz commemorates the storm with the Inland Hurricane drink special. (And no, I didn't commemorate it by having one.)
The double dekker (boxed). Jordan goes for what she likes - the chocolate center of a Grandma cookie. Ok. So, she doesn't know the meaning of delayed gratification. It takes all kinds.
Great pictures and fun description. How did you manage to do the blog for the 28th when it's still then 27th here in Georgia?? :)
ReplyDeleteI had to enlarge the photos to find the objects hidden within. :) Those irises are beautiful. I used to have a little iris patch back on the farm- I always had a dilemma 'cause I wanted to cut them and have them in the house, but I loved how they looked in the yard and didn't want them to go away from that sight. Decisions, decisions....
