These shoes are made for walking

Today I had my check-up with the shoemaker, Bart. He asked how everything was working. What I really wanted to say of course is that I hate his stupid insert and he can go find me a therapist who would try to make my foot work again. But, instead, I told him that everything with the shoes and inserts are fine, as far as I could tell.

Since everything was fine, he said I should pick out another pair of shoes. Insurance will cover the cost of two shoes and two inserts for the left shoes, and one orthesis that work for both of my right shoes (although I think actually I end up paying for the shoes). And in two years, I can do it all over again.

It took a long time to find the final pair. There were a lot of shoes I liked but none of them worked for one reason or another. The final pair is a little bit old fashioned but maybe they'll come out better than I think, when worn with jeans.

Leki girl
While at the Buchrnhornen, I picked out a pair of my very own Nordic walking sticks from the brand Leki. When I used them in the park tonight, they felt lighter than the pair borrowed from Blixembosch and they made less noise. Good for the silent dawn, whenever that comes again.

The sticks are high-tech. Made out of titanium, height adjustable and have handles that disconnect while staying strapped around your hands, making it easier to tie your shoes or pet your dog without poking him in the tail.

On the road again
I got to take a spin on a tricycle again, this one with two wheels in the front versus the back. The steering was really sensitive but it made me sit up straighter. It also was faster and easier to handle than the one from last week. I'm still not sold on either one but it's just practice anyway. Again, we rode for about one half hour, enough time for my butt muscles to scream for a break.

Final day of fall training
Today, those of us who'd attended fall training for the past six weeks received our "diplomas". It has been a fun class, they even made the ending something laughable. All of us participants doubled as judges, holding up scorecards as each of us "performed" our last dives on the mat. I scored a few tens but I hope I never have to use my new-found knowledge.

Tomorrow's another day off from Blixembosch and a day on for rest and personal errands. And by Monday, I'll be ready to go at it again. Catch ya later.

  1. Speak up for yourself about the foot/ shoe issue, or nobody else will!!! Your fears about losing what mobility you do have in your feet are completely valid, and you deserve to be heard on this issue. So there. :) Congratulations on graduating from fall training!!

  2. I agree with Steph - speak up about the shoes! It's one of those things that has far reaching implications - so don't worry about making a "fuss" if you will.

Can I go to fall training too? I think I would benefit from that greatly ;)

    Love and such!

  3. Of course it took a long time to find the perfect shoes. A girl can't rush shopping. I think I would like the Nordic walking sticks but not the fall practice (might need that when I get old... like next week) You are one busy girl...Love & Prayers Dale & Nancy
