Walking with a cane

According to the fysiotheripist...
The doctor and therapists that are working with me had a conference to talk about my progress and continued treatment. The therapist in charge of my leg is very optimistic saying that she expects I can ride a normal bike again someday (although they have some pretty cool looking handicap bikes) and be walking stairs right away.

She also said next week I'll be able to start practicing walking with a cane inside the clinic. She's going to equip my chair with a cane so anytime I feel like practicing, with a nurse's assistance, I may. I need the practice for sure.

Out before Kerstmas...
I also asked whether I'd be out before Christmas and she said she was doubtless that within three months - probably sooner - I would be home. Being in a facility during Christmas was something I would have been sorely disappointed at. This was really the first time I'd heard an estimate of recovery time.

But this is not to say I will be "fully recovered" by the beginning of December. Recovery is a lifelong process. There will come a time when it will be much longer between times when I'm able to see improvement. But as long as I have Nico by my side, he'll be pushing me to climb the nearest hill and bike the smallest mountain. With time, I am optimistic that I will be able to be where my will wants me to go.

A speedy rehabilitation...
Also, according to my talk with the therapist, I'm making such a speedy recovery that they will be reviewing my case in 4 weeks versus the usual 6 weeks. Actually, I just think they're tired of having to speak English so they want to get me out as soon as possible :)

Movies below...
If you haven't already seen them, below Suzanne posted a few more videos from Nico taken last weekend and the weekend before. The pizza video shows me lifting my arm up in a salute. That was two weeks ago. I can now lift my arm completely over my head. I'm even painting now which takes a lot of arm lifting - good exercise for the weakened shoulder. I haven't painted a canvas since I left college. So far, so good and enjoyable.

The coming weekend I will be at Nico's house again. He thanks all those who have sent goodies and cards. I think he has his store of chocolate for a while - he says he hopes he doesn't get fat. Says a lot about his will power doesn't it? Oh bless.

Take care and see you via cards and comments. And thank you for your continued support. It's not always easy to be optimistic. Your optimism helps a lot.
